The release of Kanye West's The Life of Pablo earlier this year, he claimed that Tidal would be the only place fans could get it, and now he’s in trouble for allegedly flip-flopping.
Justin Baker-Rhett filed a proposed $84 million class-action lawsuit in US District Court on Monday (April 18) stating that West and Tidal charged users $9.99 per month to get Pablo before making it available for free on Apple Music and Spotify.
The suit states, "Mr. West's promise of exclusivity also had a grave impact on consumer privacy," given that subscribers’ credit card information and musical preferences were accessed by Tidal. "We fully support the right of artists to express themselves freely and creatively, however creative freedom is not a license to mislead the public. We believe that we will be able to prove to a jury that Mr. West and Tidal tricked millions of people into subscribing to their services and that they will ultimately be held accountable for what they did."
